Project Title: Preparation and Implementation of a Scheme Layout Method
Abstract: The structural design of industrial energy systems is a complex task that is usually carried out by energy consultants based on their experience. Well-designed energy systems can save a lot of primary energy. Often older energy systems have grown over the years and the structure has changed in a way that is seldom optimal. Therefore the optimization of existing structures is a task that can save a lot of greenhouse gas emissions. Optimizing these structures using computer algorithms produces new structures automatically. The new structures can be illustrated using flow sheets. To generate these flow sheets automatically, an algorithm developed by Kamada and Kawai is a very popular. The task of the thesis is to implement this algorithm and to optimize it in a way that structures can be plotted efficiently. The algorithm uses requested distances to place the components of an energy system on the flow sheet. It should be implemented and optimized in a way that the schemes become human readable and can be plotted swiftly. The following tasks are part of the thesis: Looking into the implementation as proposed by Kamada and Kawai Implementation of the algorithm Testing with different automatically generated energy systems Optimization of the algorithm
