Project Title:
Development of vision-based user interfaces for user activity detection (more than one thesis)
Abstract:
Passive observation of the user during ordinary interaction with a PC can provide helpful information to intelligent interface components or agents. For instance, if the user is recognized as not looking at the screen when an email message arrives, a sound may be emitted in addition to the usual graphic display. Prerequisites: basic knowledge of computer vision principles, good programming skills (Java, C++). After investigating the state of the art of vision-based user interfaces, the theses should follow the following scheme: choose specific user clues to be analyzed (e.g. head orientation, gaze direction, head/arms relative positions, etc.) define hardware requirements (possibly, cheap webcam(s) and low computational power) choose technical approaches to the problem (e.g. template-based, appearance-based, 3D, skin-color, etc. techniques) Implement and test the system
